Please see the following special announcement for the upcoming Presbytery meeting.
Dear Fathers & Brothers of Palmetto Presbytery,
Northeast Church, Columbia, has the privilege of hosting our Thursday, May 14, 2020, 18th stated meeting of Palmetto Presbytery. Regrettably, because of the COVID-19 danger and restrictions this will be a very different kind of meeting.
We must limit attendance to 10 persons and want to ask you to voluntarily agree NOT to attend unless you are listed below. For this unique meeting, all members will be given an Excused Absence.
Each of the Presbytery committee chairman was asked to turn in only recommendations for Presbytery action that would not wait until the August meeting. Only three committees have recommendations: Administration, Candidates & Credentials, and Church & Ministerial Health. In fact, all of the recommendations are rather cut & dried as you will see, except perhaps for Candidates & Credentials that is presenting Palmetto Presbytery licentiate RE Trent Still for ordination examination, though the committee members reported that he did an exceptional job and is being unanimously recommended.
PCA Stated Clerk Dr. Roy Taylor has advised us that online Presbytery meetings are not permitted unless specifically included in our Operations Manual; and since that is not our case, we are required to have a face-to-face meeting with three Ruling Elders & three Teaching Elders to meet the requirements of BCO 13-4. However, Dr. Taylor goes on to say, “One possibility is to have a Presbytery meeting with a bare quorum, if possible.” So, your Presbytery Administration Committee recommends that we do just that.
To attend we are asking our elected Presbytery officers, chairmen whose committees have recommendations, men being examined and called to particular churches and a Ruling Elder from each calling church, which yields:
-
Moderator TE Max Rogland (who also serves as Candidates & Credentials Committee chairman)
-
Stated Clerk TE Igou Hodges (who also serves on Church & Ministerial Health Committee)
-
Recording Clerk TE Richard Hodges (who also serves on Candidates & Credentials Committee)
-
Treasurer RE Patrick McCormick OR Vice Moderator Homer Sargent
-
Administration Committee chairman TE George Crow (also host church pastor)
-
Church & Ministerial Health Committee chairman TE Keith Kneeshaw
-
RE Trent Sill, examination candidate & Pastor-elect at Grace Church, Aiken
-
A Ruling Elder to represent the congregation & Session of Grace Church, Aiken
-
TE Josh Desch, Senior Pastor-elect at Northeast Church, Columbia
-
A Ruling Elder to represent the congregation & Session of Northeast Church, Columbia
No visitors or guests will be allowed to attend. No coffee, refreshments or lunch will be served. Seats will be assigned at least 12 feet apart. No microphones will be used.
If for some reason, you are not one of the ten listed above, yet feel compelled by conscience to attend, you must contact TE George Crow by email (crowpreach@aol.com) or by text or call (803) 331-1919 no later than Friday, May 8, in order to see if some sort of solution might be worked out.
